This is a very polished tool to extend the capabilities of your mouse. Hold right mouse button + draw a pattern on screen to trigger an action like close tab, scroll up/down, go forward/back, etc. It also supports drag movements, for example, hold left mouse button on a link, move mouse cursor to the left ("drag") and let go of left mouse button ("drop") to copy the URL of the link.
The pre-configured mouse movements feel very natural. For those who like to tinker, GestureMaster also offers extensive customisation to change any movements + actions. Don't like drawing a downward line to trigger "Scroll to bottom"? No problem, change the action or movement or delete it altogether. It never forces any harcoded movements on users.
Lastly, while drawing a line the current input is shown on screen to give visual feedback whether your drawing matches the intended action. This way you always know what action will be triggered before you release the right mouse button.
Overall, this is an excellent mouse gesture extension. 5/5
Feature requests:
1. Keyboard command + toolbar extension click to reach options page
Keyboard shortcut for GestureMaster under chrome://extensions/shortcuts does not have a function. Clicking on the extension icon in the toolbar does nothing either. This may confuse some users. Ideally, both would open options.html, which would require adding a small service-worker in the background.
2. More actions I'd like to see
- Window: Move tab to new window
- Window: Open tab in new incognito window
- Window: Maximise window
- Window: Minimise window
- Tab: Move tab to most left position (i.e. first position)
- Tab: Move tab to most right position (i.e. last position)
- Tab: Pin/unpin tab
- Tab: Duplicate tab
- Tab: Mute/unmute tab
- Text Super Drag: Add support for other engines besides "Search Selection with Google". Ideally any website URL could be configured with a variable like "%s" or "{text}" as placeholder for the selected text.
3. Add option to hide trail
Under "Appearance & Sensitivity", two options could be added to hide trail + hide label completely.
Bugs:
1. In options page, under tab "Appearance & Sensitivity" it should show a live preview of the drawing line but the preview of the drawing line is not shown to me, no matter what Trail/Sensitivity setting I change. Only the empty preview box is visible. I found a workaround though: when I zoom in/out once, it is still invisible but then changing a setting will make the preview of the drawing line visible again. Zooming in/out again makes the drawing line invisible again but afterwards changing a Trail/Sensitivity setting makes it re-appear again. When options page is reloaded, these steps have to be repeated.
2. In options page, under tab "Normal Gestures" click on button "Add Gesture" to open a menu to configure a new gesture. The button "Clear" is shown in this menu but it seemingly doesn't do anything. I thought it would clear the current input in the "Drawing area" but the drawing area resets already when clicking again with left mouse button on it.
3. In options page, under tab "Normal Gestures", the buttons "Edit" and "Delete" don't fit in the Gestures tiles when the gesture has more than two directions to trigger the action. The longer the sequence is, the more problematic the layout becomes.
