The AI shelf of the Chrome Web Store looks like a gold rush. Lots of new stalls.
The best AI Chrome extensions are a short list, though. A few stalls have crowds, and most have one curious person poking at the sign before wandering back to the stall they already use every day.
How we counted
We searched names for AI, GPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity. That catches most AI tools and misses some with plainer names, so treat 4,411 as a floor.
This is one of our Chrome extension market research guides, so every figure carries its date.

Reach versus fans
Here's the odd split. The official Claude and ChatGPT extensions have millions of users and ratings under 3.
Sider and Monica are sidebars that let you pick between several AI models. They have far fewer users but ratings near 4.9 from tens of thousands of people.
We can't read review text, so we can't tell you why. A common pattern on the store is that a brand-name tool gets installed by people expecting the full app, then rated down when the extension does less.
Writing helpers still lead
Grammarly was in the store long before chatbots, and it still has the most users of any AI-named tool. QuillBot and DeepL also rate above 4.6, and so does LanguageTool.
So the AI tools people keep tend to fix one task inside pages they already use. Writing and translating are the clearest cases, and students lean on them most: see the best Chrome extensions for students.
The 2026 crowd
As of 3 Oct 2026, 1,799 of the AI listings were first published in 2026.
Most are small, and a lot of them wrap the same few models in a sidebar with a new name, a new icon and a short list of shortcuts.
If you're building one, the question isn't whether the shelf is busy. It's whether your one task is done badly by everything already there. Our AI extension market research guide shows how to check.
Where Ext Watch fits
We're biased, being the makers. Ext Watch lets you filter by words in the name and shows the day each number was seen. The extension directory is where we built this list.
Before installing the next AI sidebar, name the one task it should do. Then test only that.
