The short answer

Browser extension examples that reached 100K users recently include Obsidian Web Clipper, Hide Google AI Overviews, FetchV and YouTube to NotebookLM. Each was first published in 2024 or later and showed 100K+ users in our 3 Oct 2026 crawl. Most do one clear job on a site people already use, which is the pattern worth copying.

  • In our crawl, 49 extensions first published in the past year had 100K+ users.
  • Most winners do one job tied to one big site or tool.
  • Some huge counts come with almost no ratings, which deserves suspicion.
  • We can't show growth curves yet, only where each one stands today.

Browser extension examples help more than advice.

Seeing which browser extension examples actually reached a big audience, and noticing how small and specific most of those tools turn out to be, tells you a lot about what people go looking for.

How we picked these

We took extensions from our crawl that were first published on or after 1 Jan 2024 and showed 100K+ users on 3 Oct 2026. We left out big-brand launches like OpenAI's and Anthropic's own extensions, since a famous name explains their numbers.

One honest limit: our own history only started on 2 Oct 2026. So we can say where each extension stands, not how fast it climbed. "Reached 100K" here means "had 100K+ users when we looked". The numbers come from listings on the Chrome Web Store, and our guide to finding Chrome extension ideas covers the wider method.

The last two launched in 2023, so they sit outside the post-2024 group. They're there because they show the same one-job pattern at the 100K level. Cat Gatekeeper is the youngest: first published in April 2026, and at 300K users five months later.

The Tools category page lists the same extensions with users and ratings.

The patterns they share

They ride a bigger product. Obsidian Web Clipper feeds Obsidian. YouTube to NotebookLM connects two Google tools. A clipper or bridge for a popular app is one of the clearest paths in this list.

They remove one annoyance.

Hide Google AI Overviews does exactly what its name says, and nothing else, which is why someone scanning the store for a fix to that one block of results can tell in a second that it's the right install. 600K users installed a tool to hide one block of a search page.

They pick a site with huge traffic. Four of the twelve are YouTube tools. A small fix on a giant site reaches a lot of people.

Attach to a big product and fix one thing.

Numbers to be wary of

Some entries in the same post-2024 group look odd. AdScrubber showed 1M users with only 4 ratings in our 3 Oct 2026 crawl. A 1M audience usually leaves far more ratings than that. It could be a bundled install or inflated counts.

We can't tell from the listing.

Check the rating count against the users. A big install base with almost no ratings is worth a closer look before you treat it as a success story.

What to take from this

  1. Pick a host productSomething with millions of users that leaves a gap.
  2. Name the tool after the jobPeople search for the job, not your brand.
  3. Ship one featureEvery example above can be explained in one line.

Where Ext Watch fits

We're biased, since we build it. Ext Watch lists recent launches with users and rating counts, each dated, and flags listings from big publishers separately. Real growth curves will appear once we have enough days of our own history; until then we say so.

Questions people ask

What are some examples of browser extensions?

Ad blockers, password managers, web clippers, video tools and site fixers. Obsidian Web Clipper and Hide Google AI Overviews are two recent ones with large audiences.

How long does it take an extension to reach 100K users?

It varies a lot, and our own history is too short to measure it fairly yet. The examples above were all first published in 2024 or later.

Do popular extensions make money?

Some do, usually through plans sold on their own websites. A big user count alone doesn't tell you.
