The short answer

The top Chrome extensions 2026 has produced so far, by store user count, are OpenAI's ChatGPT extension (6M users), a cluster of ad blockers, and a few small surprises like Cat Gatekeeper. But a user count alone can't tell you who's climbing. Check the ratings count before you trust any new name.

  • We found 21,061 extensions first published in 2026 in our crawl.
  • Only 300 of them had reached 10,000 users by 3 Oct 2026.
  • 31 of those 300 had fewer than 5 ratings, which is worth a second look.
  • Ad blockers fill a big share of the 2026 top 15.

Top Chrome extensions 2026 lists usually promise climbers. Ours would be fiction right now, so here's the list we can actually stand behind, built from the public Chrome Web Store.

Why this isn't a climbers list yet

Climbing means change over time. You need two counts of the same thing, weeks apart.

Ext Watch started recording its own daily snapshots on 2 Oct 2026. So one day of history is all we have, and any "climber" label built on it would be a guess dressed up as a chart.

Ask us again in November, when we'll have a month of our own daily counts to compare.

Then the word "climbing" can finally mean something you could check yourself. Field meanings are in Chrome Web Store stats.

Top Chrome extensions 2026: the biggest launches by users

Here's the top of the list, sorted by the user count the store showed on 3 Oct 2026.

Look at the second row for a moment. A million users and four ratings.

That doesn't prove anything bad on its own. Some tools get pushed by a company to every laptop it manages, and those users never rate anything.

But it's a gap you'd want explained before you copy the idea or buy the listing.

The Workflow & Planning category page has the dated counts if you want to check this yourself.

How to read a launch number

Say a new extension shows 200,000 users after five months. Three quick checks tell you a lot.

  1. Count the ratings. As of 3 Oct 2026, extensions in our crawl with 100K to 1M users had a median of 1.85 ratings per 1,000 users. Far fewer is a flag.
  2. Check the publisher.GoFullPage BETA (300,000 users, Aug 2026) is a beta channel of an 11M-user product. It's a spin-off, so it doesn't count as a new hit.
  3. Read the age.The store shows the first-published date. Divide carefully: the user count is rounded to a bucket, so "per day" maths gets shaky fast.

Treat a big user count with a tiny ratings count as unverified until something else backs it up.

What stands out in the 2026 class

Two patterns jump out of the 300 launches that had crossed 10,000 users by 3 Oct 2026. For monthly context, see Chrome extension trends.

First, ad blockers. (For ratings-first picks, see best Chrome extensions 2026.) On 3 Oct 2026, four of the top fifteen 2026 launches have "ad" and "block" in the name. It's a crowded shelf, and new entrants keep arriving anyway.

Second, the odd small delights. Cat Gatekeeper, a well-being extension with 744 ratings, sits beside giant brands.

That small, slightly silly tool reached 300,000 users in about five months on the store's rounded count, which is a nice reminder that a playful idea still travels.

Where Ext Watch fits

We're biased, since we built it. Ext Watch keeps a dated snapshot of every extension it crawls, so the collections page will show real change once enough days pile up.

Until then it labels every number with the day it was seen.

Next time a "top climbers" list lands in your feed, look for the date range first. No range, no climb.

Questions people ask

What is the most popular Chrome extension launched in 2026?

In our crawl on 3 Oct 2026, OpenAI's ChatGPT extension led 2026 launches with 6M users on the store's rounded count.

Which new Chrome extensions are gaining users fastest?

Not yet, and not with any confidence. Growth needs repeated snapshots over weeks, and our own history began on 2 Oct 2026.

Why do some new extensions have huge users and few ratings?

Company-managed installs or padded numbers can both cause it. The ratings count alone can't say which.
